Schools are given support in the provision of resources for learning.
One of the many backlogs we observed in schools where Physical Science is taught is the lack of adequate laboratory facilities. In some cases there is only an empty classroom with no furniture, water or electricity let alone any laboratory equipment.
During the past year two of our REACH schools with serious backlogs in this regard were earmarked in our planning to help them to renovate and improve their laboratory facilities. This project, for the upgrading of their laboratory classrooms was funded by the Impala Bafokeng Trust.
After inspections at these schools and consultations with principals, SGB’s (school governing bodies) and the DOE (department of education), approval was given for the go-ahead.
The following work has been completed at two schools as well as the provision of furniture and equipment :

On a limited scale, within the capacity and scope of the initiative, certain critical resources for learning in the form of laboratory equipments, calculators and printed materials are provided or lent to the schools.
We also manage the science laboratory at the Bojanala Teacher’s Resource Centre in Thlabane, Rustenburg, where teachers and subject advisors can come and get acquainted to the use of apparatus for practical work at their schools.
